RIO Ammunition Introduces New Breakthrough Innovation: The first dissolvable and biodegradable wad to be presented at SHOT Show

The new component avoids the use of plastic, is 100% biodegradable and turns into organic material beneficial for the ground. It will be incorporated to RIO’s comprehensive steel-shot product line, BlueSteel.

Dallas (Texas), January 18th - RIO Ammunition, a global expert in non-metallic ammunition, will introduce the first hydro soluble wad in the US next week at the SHOT Show 2019 in Las Vegas. The company will incorporate this new component to its BlueSteel product line, taking a huge step forward towards reducing the impact of the shotshells in the environment.

The new hydro soluble wad is 100% biodegradable and all its additives are of vegetal origin, making it compliant with ASTM International standards. Not only does the wad not harm the environment, but it turns into compost (CO2, mineral salts and biomass), working as a high-quality fertilizer.

“The hydro soluble wad is a testament to RIO’s commitment towards innovation. We continuously work to make our shotshells more precise, more reliable and also reduce its impact on the environment. Now we can offer a shotshell with the two elements that are expelled from the shotgun—the shot and wad—having a limited, even positive impact on the environment,” explains Eduardo Baeza, RIO Ammunition General Manager.

RIO Ammunition will have samples of the wad at its booth (#15738) where you will be able to see how it reacts to water until dissolving. Additionally, the company’s General Manager will explain the features and benefits of the improved BlueSteel product line at the booth during the show. Journalists are invited to stop by and check it out.

SHOT Show 2019: RIO Ammunition launches a new, low recoil Target Load with transparent hull and highly visible blue wad

SHOT Show 2019: RIO Ammunition launches a new, low recoil Target Load with transparent hull and highly visible blue wad

This new product lets shooters see what is inside the shotshell and makes it easier to follow the trajectory of the shot for improved performance.

Dallas (Texas), January 17th - RIO Ammunition, a global expert in non-metallic ammunition, will be introducing a new Target Load during next week’s SHOT Show in Las Vegas. The new shotshells are ideal for beginners as they have a softer recoil and make it easier to improve accuracy shot after shot.

This is achieved thanks to two key innovations developed by RIO Ammo’s R&D team: the transparent hull to see what is inside the shotshell and the highly visible blue wad. Shooters can easily follow the trajectory of their shot and adjust accordingly to break more clays.

“The Target Load is one of the most comprehensive lines available for target shooters, with options tailored for each specific discipline. They appreciate our powders because of their cleanliness, burning consistency and lower pressures for a lower recoil and best patterns. As a trap shooter, I know how important it is to understand why we are not hitting the target and the new Target Load makes it much easier,” explains Eduardo Baeza, RIO Ammunition General Manager.

This new target load will be available in:
Target Load 28 Low Recoil 12ga 2-3/4" 1135fps 2-1/2 DR 1oz #7.5
Target Load 28 Low Recoil 12ga 2-3/4" 1135fps 2-1/2 DR 1oz #8

SHOT Show 2019: RIO Ammunition Extends Its Wing & Target and Vintage 1896 Paper Line

* The shotshell manufacturer will present light and high velocity versions of both lines as well as a new 24-gram load developed for ISSF competitions.

Dallas (Texas), January 16th - RIO Ammunition, a global expert in shotshell ammunition, will expand two of its best-selling product lines: the Wing & Target and Vintage 1896 line, recognized for its paper hulls.

The Wing & Target line has been designed for recreational shooters who want to spend time breaking clays with friends and family. Recognized as soft shooting, clean burning because of its single-based powder and box-to-box consistency, it has become a weekend favorite. This product will now also be available in light and high velocity versions in two different shot sizes:

Wing & Target 28 Light 12ga 2-3/4" 1150fps 2-1/2 DR 1oz #7.5
Wing & Target 28 Light 12ga 2-3/4" 1150fps 2-1/2 DR 1oz #8
Wing & Target 28 High Velocity 12 ga 2-3/4" 1350fps MAX DR 1oz #7.5
Wing & Target 28 High Velocity 12 ga 2-3/4" 1350fps MAX DR 1oz #8

RIO Ammunition will also expand its Vintage 1896 Paper line to include the Paper Helice load making it the broadest range of paper hull shotshells on the market. Each shell is loaded with care and dedicated craftmanship, just like in the old times.

This new product responds to the growing demand of helice shooters, a discipline similar to bird hunting because of the randomness of the target flight:

Vintage 1896 Paper Helice LT 28 1250 fps #7.5
Vintage 1896 Paper Helice LT 28 1250 fps #8
Vintage 1896 Paper Helice 28 1300 fps #8

Vintage 1896 Paper Helice HV 28 1350 fps #8
Vintage 1896 Paper Helice HV 28 1350 fps #7.5

Finally, the company will also present the Paper International load—a 24-gram load with a paper hull developed for ISSF competition. This load allows for the incredible experience of competing with paper hulls on the international stage possible for the first time. The smell of a freshly shot paper shotshell combined with less felt recoil and the best performance make this a premium product that American shooters will love.

Vintage 1896 Paper International 24 gram 2-3/4" 1335fps 3-1/4DR #9
Vintage 1896 Paper International 24 gram 2-3/4" 1335fps 3-1/4DR #7.5

Fernández also matched his previously-set World Record with 48 points in the shoot-out, breaking all but two clays during the decisive series. Varga finished very close with 47 points in what might have been one of the greatest finals in a long time.

With this gold medal, the Spanish multi-champion also clinched a spot on the next Olympic Games that will take place in Tokyo in 2020. Fernández will be shooting RIO cartridges in the Olympics for the fourth time in his career, after competing in Beijing, London and Rio de Janeiro.

“I can’t express with words what I feel after winning my second world title and ensuring a place in the Olympics, which is my greatest aspiration as a trap shooter. I want to thank everyone that has supported me and of course RIO, which has been by my side for years. This is also their success as RIO’s Star Team Evo is the best performing cartridge one can shoot”, explained Alberto Fernández.

“For us it is a great honor to see our cartridges being shot by the world champion. It is a testament to the high-performance of our products and also the result of a long-standing partnership with Alberto. This is what happens when the best join forces”, added Eduardo Baeza, Director of RIO Ammunition in the US.

Fernández previously won the gold medal on the ISSF World Championship in Munich in 2010. In addition, he has six World Cup individual gold medals and one World Cup Final gold medal between 2011 and 2017. He completes his record book with two silvers and two bronzes.

RIO AMMO announces the launch of new product specifically to support the NRA

RIO AMMO announces the launch of new product specifically to support the NRA

Manufactured in Marshall, Texas, the new RIO Patriot Pack features a distinctive outer sleeve design holding one hundred 12-gauge cartridges that are designed for Wing & Target shooting. The Patriot Packs also feature RIO's commitment to the NRA's mission. While the lines are being drawn and many companies in the sporting goods industries are withdrawing their support for the rights guaranteed in our Constitution, RIO is stepping forward to renew its support for the second amendment.

RIO's proud support for the NRA takes two separate approaches. First is in a direct contribution of one dollar for every Patriot Pack sold through June 15th of 2019. These funds will prove crucial in the NRA's various educational and legislative initiatives aimed at preserving our firearms rights for future generations. Second, RIO is working with the NRA to offer a membership discount of up to $40 if customers sign up through a special URL found only on the Patriot Packaging.

"By helping to fund vital NRA programs," says Darrell Morrow, National Sales Director for RIO, "and by compelling our customers to sign up for an NRA membership, Rio is helping to ensure that the qualities of discipline, respect, good sportsmanship and loyalty, all key aspects of the shooting sports, are carried forward to the next generation of collectors, hunters and competitors."

“We are grateful for RIO’s commitment to the Second Amendment.” says Todd Grable, Executive Director of Membership for the NRA, “It is critical to have partners who stand with all of us in protecting our Second Amendment rights and preserving America’s shooting sports heritage.”

Patriot Packs are produced in RIO Ammunition's 105,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Marshall, Texas production facility. This facility, one of three operated globally by Rio's parent company, MAXAM Outdoors, is capable of producing over 300 million shot shells annually at full capacity. This facility not only creates some of the finest cartridges in the world, it also creates solid American jobs in east Texas.
