Misunderstood and underrated - wads can make or break accuracy, consistency and overall performance.

Using our own proprietary design, we are able to more effectively integrate the wad design into that of the overall cartridge, as well as ensure that our manufacturing process is precisely controlled from end to end. We could have used off-the-shelf wad design commonly found in competing products, and you would get run-of-the-mill performance.

To the team at Rio, this was unacceptable. Instead, we started by fundamentally rethinking the role of the wad withing the live cycle of the cartridge. From this unassuming perspective, we brought new characteristics, advanced physics and modern materials to bear to deliver a product unlike anything else on the market - the BOSSI® wad.

We manufacture the wad by precision injection molding of a unique low-density polyethylene (LDPE) using state-of-the-art equipment and computer-aided design and process control. This translates into unparalleled symmetry, consistency and reliability.

To better understand the role of this critical component, consider the complex function of the wad during the ignition cycle:
• Power Transmission -
At the moment of ignition, the wad is responsible for conversion of peak chamber pressures to inertial momentum. The BOSSI wad was purpose-built to outperform all competition in this role.

• Friction Reduction -
By providing a close-tolerance interface between the barrel and the LDPE container, you achieve maximum muzzle velocities while reducing barrel wear and shot deformation.

• Containment Sabot -
Key to performance is a uniformed geometry of the shot cluster as it exits the barrel. The wad's design ensures optimal release and drop-away characteristics delivering unequaled patterns.

• Shock Absorption -
The design of the progressive compression linkage provides smooth energy transfer and significantly reduced felt recoil, resulting to greater accuracy and reduced shooter fatigue.
